A Word From Jud
"Ants"
Well, I do not know much about ants, but that has never
stopped me from talking about a subject in the past.
I am not a real fan of ants. Perhaps that is just because I do not
find them very attractive. If they are around the house, they
really bother me. They just seem to be a rather unattractive
addition to our world. Their numbers must be astronomical.
Often it seems like they just keep coming and coming.
When ants are around your house they are just making a living.
They want something to eat, not simply for themselves, but for their
whole community. They are unique in the fact that different ants
have different roles within their community. Some wage war.
Some maintain the living quarters. Some scout for food. They
can communicate to a certain extent. Whether they recognize
individual ants, I am not sure, but they know who belongs to the
community by scent.
"Some wage war." Yes, that is true. Many living creatures
fight. Usually living creatures fight for food, or to protect
themselves. Most creatures fight for a purpose. So, even the
snake is going to attack for food, or fear. There are only two
species that actually wage war. That is they come together as a
community and seek to overcome, and/or destroy, another community.
Ants do this! Human beings do this!
Now ants distinguish who each other is by scent. You can move an
ant fifteen hundred miles and put it next to an ant of a similar scent,
and you have friends. You can move an ant three feet and put it
next to an ant of a different scent, and you have a battle, . . . to the
death.
I am just thinking, there is something to be learned here.
Why do we war? Why do we get together in groups, . . . be it
individuals, . . . families, . . . or nations, and war? We always
seem to have a reason, . . . like the snake to protect ourselves, . . .
like the tiger to get something to eat, . . . or in our case it may be
oil. Do we war because we have to, . . . just as we justify it to
ourselves?
Or, . . . do we war because the "scent" is different. They don't
look like us! They don't talk like us! They don't think like
us! They act differently! So, we war. We war with
words. We war with action! We war in spirit. Until, we
finally war physically.
Our Lord says, "don't do that!" Life is not about war. Life
is about peace. Life is not about hate. Life is about love.
We pull out a thousand reasons why this does not work, . . . but it
does! I know God did not give much of a brain to a little tiny
ant, . . . so, you would think, . . . we can do better than that!!!
Take care,
jud
